1.      - In my opinion, poetry is one of literature which we can use to express uses to convey messages, mind, feelings or outpourings through written patterns. Each verse in poetry has its own meaning. people who write poetry are called poets.

2.     -  Some genre of English poetry, such as:

a.       Narrative poetry, is a genre of poetry that tells a story. Like a novel or a short story, a narrative poem has plot, characters, and setting. May be narrative poetry is a oldest type of poetry.

Example:

(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, “the song of Hiawatha”)

“On the Mountains of the Prairie,
On the great Red Pipe-stone Quarry,
Gitche Manito, the mighty,
He the Master of Life, descending,
On the red crags of the quarry
Stood erect, and called the nations,
Called the tribes of men together."

b.      Dramatic poetry

Dramatic poetry, also known as dramatic verse or verse drama, is a written work that both tells a story and connects the reader to an audience through emotions or behavior.

Example :

DREAM it was in which I found myself.
And you that hail me now, then hailed me king,
In a brave palace that was all my own,
Within, and all without it, mine; until,
Drunk with excess of majesty and pride,
Methought I towered so big and swelled so wide
That of myself I burst the glittering bubble
Which my ambition had about me blown
And all again was darkness.

c.       Lyric poetry

Lyric poetry is a genre that is different with epic poetry and dramatic poetry. in lyric poetry, the mood is melodic and emotional. Lyric poetry uses words that express his or her state of mind, perceptions, and feelings, rather than tell a story. A lyric poem is usually written in the first person.

Example:

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate.

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer's lease hath all too short a date.

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimmed,

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed.

3.      - There are some of Indonesian poetry, such as:

-          Elegy, is a poem of serious reflection, usually a lament for the dead.

Example:

Adakah jauh perjalanan ini?

Cuma selenggang! - Coba kalau bisa lebih!

Lantas bagaimana?

Pada daun gugur tanya sendiri,

Dan sama lagu melembut jadi melodi!     

Apa tinggal jadi tanda mata?

Lihat pada betina tidak lagi menengadah

Atau bayu sayu, bintang menghilang!

 

Lagi jalan ini berapa lama?

Boleh seabad... aduh sekerdip saja!

Perjalanan karna apa?

Tanya rumah asal yang bisu!

Keturunanku yang beku di situ!

-          Epigram, epigram is one of the poems which contains the teachings of life or guidance to the truth.

PAGI

jangan biarkan sekuntum bunga itu

layu sebelum matahari membelainya

dengan menggemakan semburat jingga

ultra dalam irama nuansa cinta-semesta

lihatlah bagaimana alam begitu perkasa

memainkan peran-Nya

dalam rindu-dendam yang terbungkus

kasih sayang memberi semburat

makna seribu pesona
